Cool Programs

Programs that have high quality, good updates, and excellent stability for their function.

Powerstrip

An overclocking utility for almost all video cards.  (Overclocking is the process of increasing the frequency (in Hz) of a given electronics unit.  Such as overclocking a CPU from 2.8ghz to 3.0ghz. This gives a performance boost without adding to price.) The number of cards it supports is just amazing. Use at your own risk. Free Trial (No limit to usage, full functionality)

SOFTplus GSiteCrawler

A useful little program used to generate Google sitemaps. These sitemaps help to ensure Google will index your pages correctly, and will come back and check for updates. This helps to secure your share of Google searches for your keywords. Free.

Dev-C++

A Developers tool for windows that can be used to make C and C++ programs.  If you are serious about developing you should switch to linux where the availability of developer tools is greater (and free), but this is a good for the beginner to get his/her feet wet. Open source and Free.

Bittorrent

Unique solution for bandwidth problems.  A file-sharing program, the more people that want a given file, the faster the download. Free

Coolbits

An overclocking utility for NVIDIA video cards. Free

Advanced System Optimizer

Cool program, allows you to cache windows within RAM, and defrag/optimize the registry. Free for 15 days.

OpenOffice

An equivalent to Microsoft TM Office, it allows you to open/save/edit Microsoft TM Office files.  It's a completely free program, encouraged to be shared.  Offers almost exactly the same functionality as Microsoft TM Office, but for Free.

Linux (Ubuntu or Kubuntu)

Open source operating systems offer many advantages to commercial ones.  Including but not limited to: constant updates, high compatibility, and high reliability.  Ubuntu and its cousin Kubuntu, are in my opinion the best Linux Distributions available for the new user. Free

Firefox

Free web browser. Try it and you'll like it, secure works and is safer than IE. Awesomely Free.

Apache

Open source web hosting.  Something like 75% of Internet traffic goes through Apache. Free

Windows Vista

Lots of interesting ideas of how an operating system should be... if it's ever published.  Unfortunately the minimum system requirements are pretty high. $$$

GAIM

AOL AIM replacement, loads faster, and works better, overall i like it a lot... it works with MSN messenger, and AIM, along with several others.

Azureus

An excellent Bittorrent client with many easy to use plugins. Offers in depth analysis of downloads, fast speed, and the ability to choose which files should be downloaded first, and if they should be downloaded at all.
